Certified Naturally Grown and Animal Welfare Approved Texel Wool - And Now
- Virginia's Finest!
Border Springs Farm Texel Wool is a medium wool with good loft and praised for its good hand spinning. Our
sheep are expertly sheared typically the last weekend of January, prior to lambing the first of March.
Generally we host a "Shearing Day at Border Springs Farm" where local fiber artists and the public is invited to the
farm to see the fall lambs and witness the old craft of sheep shearing. The fleeces are skirted, supervised by one of
the expert hand spinners, and baged. Most of the fleeces find their way into the trunks of cars that day to shortly
become prized yarn.
The pictures of wool and yarn below have been provided by Dori Ann from Statesville, NC. In addition to her
testimonial, please check out her website where she is selling some of the yarn and batting from our Texel sheep as well as
describes her impressions of Texel Wool from Border Springs Farm.
We produce approximately 900-1000 lbs of wool each year. We take reservations for wool in quantities greater
than 10 fleeces for $10/fleece if picked up on the day of shearing from the farm. Each fleece weighs about 6-8 lbs.
Individual fleeces are sold on the day of shearing for $10/fleece. After shearing day, fleeces are sold at $4.00/lb.
Currently 200 lbs of next year's fleece has been reserved. Please email or call to make your reservation of Border
Springs Farm Wool for 2010.
