Jen - Price: Call for information
How can so much dog fit into such a small package? Jen is a firecracker. She is fast - and square.
From the age of 12 weeks, it has been a struggle for us to keep her from going under, through, and over fences to get to "her"
sheep. She lives to work.
Jen is sired by our Jake and out of Steve McCall's Tish II (from Henry Hinton). Steve has a brother to Jen, Henry,
that we may see at the 2008 USBCHA National Nursery Finals. As a very young 2 year old, Jen placed 11th at the 2007
USBCHA National Cattle Dog Nursery Finals in Torrington, WY. With a bit of help from me at the chute, if I had just
checked my watch, we could have placed in the top 10; but "that is dog trialing" as they say.
Jen qualified for the 2007 USBCHA National Sheep Dog Finals in Gettysburg, PA and did a wonderful job with her gather
and the first leg of the drive before the sheep finally won and I decided that "my little girl" had done enough work for the
day and did not need "more experience" at the National Finals and we retired. I was still proud of her work and more miles
will do her wonders.
The acorn did not fall from the tree. She has a lot of Jake in her. Working on her pace is a daily training
experience but we will never have to worry about leaving sheep at the top of the field. I would say that her youthful
exuberence will temper with age, but then again, Jake acts like a puppy seeing sheep for the first time at the age of 8, so
I am not holding my breath.
Although she is a handful, I laugh and smile everytime I take her out to work. There are not many dogs on the planet
that demonstrate what it means to be "working dog" and how it is simply cemented in their DNA. She would rather work
stock than breath...oh what a joy she is.
